Karen Kruit
Director of Midwifery

Karen is a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with extensive experience across the continuum of maternity care and has practised in all models of care from high risk tertiary care to community based home birthing. She has practised in both the public and private sectors in WA, in Tasmania and internationally, in the Netherlands and Africa since 1990. It is this background of international professional experience across a wide range of health care services and her experience in clinical care, service management, quality and safety, and a strong academic history that places her well to offer a safe, woman-centred holistic midwifery service.
Lesley Kuliukas

Lesley’s rich midwifery experience spans a wide variety of maternity settings over many years. Lesley completed her nursing at Charing Cross Hospital in London and midwifery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. She has practised over the whole spectrum of maternity care from high risk hospital settings to birth centres and at home in the community. Lesley’s focus is to provide a safe woman-centred approach, tailored to individual needs. She aims to ensure that every couple is able to approach the birth of their baby and approaching parenthood, prepared physically and psychologically, fully informed and ready for the next part of their life journey.
Stephanie Sowerby
RN | RM | Endorsed Midwife
Stephanie is a registered Midwife with a vast range of knowledge and experience in the field of midwifery. She trained in the UK and has now settled in Western Australia working as a community based midwife. After qualifying from the University of Northumbria in 2012, Stephanie went on to work as a hospital based midwife for 4 years and then as a community midwife for around a year, before, moving to WA in 2016.
Prior to joining Perth Maternity, Stephanie was a hospital based midwife at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Her ultimate midwifery focus is to provide women-centered care that is holistic and I believe that continuity of care and informed decision making maximises the chance of an empowered pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.
Ruth McIntosh
Registered Midwife | Endorsed Midwife | Lactation Consultant
Ruth trained in the UK as a community midwife, and re-located to Perth, Australia in 2006. Before joining Perth Maternity she was the Coordinator of Education Services at The Bump WA, overseeing Pregnancy Classes and Lactation Consultation services. Ruth is a qualified Lactation Consultant, presents Caesarean workshops and provides midwifery advice to women.
Pamela Morley-Smith
RN | RM | Endorsed Midwife
After qualifying as a midwife in 1994 in the U.K, Pam has worked in a number of different maternity settings in her 26 year career, so far, and three different countries including the U.K., Canada and now Australia since moving here in 2004. Working in all aspects of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal are, with a particular interest in breastfeeding.
She has worked in team and hospital based models of care and passionately believes that continuity of care between a woman, her family and her midwife is paramount. She has noted that outcomes and satisfaction are much improved with a known midwife and special relationships are made where women can feel safe to express their concerns and feel secure to ask questions that will be answered honestly.
She believes knowledge and informed choices are one of the most important factors in a women's care for the best and most satisfying results and looks forward to caring for you through this very special time in your life.
Amanda Bowyer
RN | RM | Endorsed Midwife
Amanda is originally from a town in Dorset, UK. Back in the UK where she trained as a college lecturer for students aged 16–19-year-olds. She is a proud mum to twin girls who are starting to explore the world.
Amanda moved to Dawesville in 2013 and loves life there. She decided to change her career and completed the Dual Degree in Nursing and Midwifery through Edith Cowan University. Since then, She has been based in the Maternity unit at her local hospital. From this, Amanda has experience in various areas of midwifery but has a passion for antenatal care, postnatal care, and breastfeeding support. As a lactation consultant Amanda is able to support mothers to be on their breastfeeding journey. She has also trained as an independent. Hypno-birthing Practitioner, Antenatal and Postnatal massage, and love blending oils for the use during pregnancy.
Continuity of care and a woman’s right of choice is at the very heart of Amanda's professional ethos and she values the strength of a women’s individuality, and strives to promote their health in their beliefs.
